USPS “photographing all mail”

The latest book by Bob Schneider "Data and Goliath", says:

"Through a program called Isolation Control and Tracking, the US Postel Service photographs the exterior, front and back, of every piece of mail sent in the US. That's about 160 billion pieces annually."

Apparently, there are 2 programs, one old and one new:

  • "Mail Covers Program" is on demand, and records the exterior of all "mails" and "parcels". However, this is on-demand and only applied in the numbers like tens of thousands a year.
  • "Mail Isolation Control and Tracking" applies to all letters. (It is not clear if this applies to non-machinable letters or flats, which are hard to automate). Apparently a machine photographs the front and back automatically as a barcode is sprayed automatically onto the letters.

New Certificate For Teapplix

Teapplix has just upgraded our certificate. The new certificate uses SHA-2 signature algorithm. If you run into WebConnector error accessing Teapplix, please ensure the following if you are on an older version of Windows (XP, or Microsoft Server 2003 before Service Pack 3, etc)

1) on Internet Explorer, go to https://www.teapplix.com, make sure that your browser accepts the Teapplix certificate.
2) if your Internet does not accept the certificate, please review the following documents:

QuickBooks POS Support Inventory Names

We have now added choice of Inventory Name to our POS Integration Support.

You can choose to treat the following POS data item as your "Inventory SKU":

  • POS Item Name
  • POS ALU
  • POS Item Number

You make the choice on Integration Setup page.

“Postage Account” Information in Customer Report

We have added a new column "postage account" information to our Customer Report.

If you have USPS Endicia , Stamps.com or Express1, the order will include which postage account printed the shipping label.

If you link multiple FedEx or UPS accounts to Teapplix, this field will indicate the account number that is actually used to generate the label.

Direct Print Support for Firefox 33+

We have released direct print support for firefox version 33+. Unlike the previous version of our plugins, this one do not require a new version each time Firefox has a new release.

To use this version of plugin:

  • clear your browser cache
  • upgrade firefox
  • go to Setup => Firefox, and click on the link to install the plugin

Notice that due to Firefox limitations, this plugin can not detect that DaZzle is running when you push the direct print button, so make sure your DaZzle is not running before you push the button.

In addition, you do not need to update the plugin each time Firefox has a new release.
